Who Sponsors the Teen Tzedakah Fund?
The Foundation for Jewish Philanthropies and the Bureau of Jewish
Education's High School for Jewish Studies provide the opportunity for teens grades
10 - 12 to learn how to become philanthropists in the Teen Tzedakah program.
What is the Teen Tzedakah Fund Program? A group of teens in grades grades
10 through 12,
meet twice a month from January to May, and have the responsibility to give away
$10,000 in grants to any charities they select. They explore the needs in the Jewish and non-Jewish
community through presentations by agency representatives, site visits, groups discussions and individual research.
Who Contributes to the Teen Tzedakah Fund?
Each teen is expected to make a minimum contribution of $180 and a group of anonymous Foundation donors make matching gifts to fund the program.
What are the Objectives of the Teen
Tzedakah Fund?
- To teach the importance of Tzedakah
- To help young people make informed choices about giving
- To expose our youth to the needs of the community, both Jewish and non-Jewish
- To develop leadership skills
